Distribution
It is seen across the Indian subcontinent and usually found growing on
river banks or near dry river beds in Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal,
Odisha, and South and Central India, Karachi Pakistan along with Sri
Lanka and Bangladesh.
Plant Large Description
It is an evergreen tree, 20-25m tall and with spreading branches and fask growing
and it usually has a buttressed trunk, It's gray coloured thick bark pale while
externally and smooth inside and flakes off in large flat pieces. The leaves are
simple, sub-opposite to each other and are oblong or slliplic-oblong in shape. The
flowers are stalkless and found in elusters or in axillary species. The fruits
(drupe) avoid-along, 5-7 hard angles or wings making it convement for disposal by
wind. It has pale yellow flowers which appear between March and June; its glabrous,
2.5 to 5 cm fibrous woody fruit, divided into five wings, appears between September
and November.
