    REVIEW

    Biotechnol Lett
    DOI 10.1007/s10529-010-0275-z

Prof. P S Bisen’s Review on “Biodiesel production with special emphasis on lipase-catalyzed transesterification” has been published in Springer Science Business Media on 18th April 2010.

The world is confronted with the twin crisis of fossil fuel depletion and environmental degradation. The indiscriminate extraction and consumption of fossil fuel have led to a reduction in petroleum reserves. The present review gives an overview on biodiesel production technology and analyzes the factors/methods of enzymatic approach reported in the literature and also suggests suitable method on the basis of evidence for industrial production of biodiesel.

The increasing industrialization and motorization of the world has led to a steep rise for the demand of petroleum-based fuels Hence, it is necessary to look for alternative fuels, which can be produced from resources available locally within the country such as alcohol, vegetable oils, animal fats and microbial oils etc Biodiesel has become more attractive recently because of its environmental benefits and the fact that it is made from renewable resources. The current challenges are its cost and limited availability of fat and oil resources.

    Navneet KampaniNavneet Kampani
Consumer Banking Head at Citibank, N.A
    Bahrain

Mr. Navneet Kampani ,CEO of Citibank, Kingdom of Bahrain on  23 December ,2009 delivered a lecture on “Current market condition and a way forward”

Mr. Kampani has discussed about the recession in the US and the global market which have engulfed complete world economy with a varying degree of recessional impact.

The financial sector being badly hit and major issues being “liquid crisis” in the market were addressed. He enlighted the MBA students about the concept of global credit system, subprime mortgage crisis and financial crisis triggered by a dramatic rise in mortgage delinquencies and foreclosures in the US with major consequences for banks and financial market around the globe.

India is least affected as subprime market is not too much matured. A bit effect is seen because of mortgage crisis and government of India has taken effective measures to curtail credit crisis.

Perhaps the most overwhelmed part of the lecture was query handling session management faculty members and students from the audience has made the communication two way by adding more information through their queries.
